About Us
The Gettysburg Equestrian Historical Society was founded in 1994 as a non-profit, volunteer organization. It’s sole purpose is to assist the National Park Service in preserving and maintaining the equestrian trail system through out the Gettysburg National Military Park. In so doing, this organization could help preserve the parks equestrian resources while providing enhanced interpretive and riding experiences for all horse trail users.
All funds raised by the Gettysburg Equestrian Historical Society and all hours of labor donated by Gettysburg Equestrian Historical Society members are used to directly improve the equestrian trails.
This group of volunteers will be asked to assist the National Park Service in future trail erosion control, trail trimming, and safety improvements for all equestrian users.
If the equestrian community does not protect our interests, other users will push to limit or eliminate the use of horses within the park.
